Lopez Leads Owls in State Championship Preview

Morro Bay, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Golf team got a preview of the 2014 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships this past weekend when they took part in the 2014 Morro Bay Invitational. The Owls played on the State Championship course, finishing 11th out 17 of the best teams in the State, while freshmen Jamie Lopez and Lexandra So both posted Top 20 Individual Finishes.

Lopez lead the way for Citrus firing an opening round 79. Lopez came back on Monday and knocked three strokes off her round for a 76 and two day total of 155 tying her for fifth place individually. So meanwhile struggled in the opening round with an 82. So rebounded nicely on the second day with a 78 for a total of 160 and a five way tie for 11th place overall.

Rounding out the Citrus scoring efforts were freshman Sara Asencio and sophomore Katherine De La Torre. Asencion shot back to back rounds of 94, while De La Torre bounced back from a 110 on the first day, to shoot a 94 on day two.

As a team, Citrus shot a 370 on day one, before rallying with a 347 on day two, for a two day total of 717. There day two total was the second best of participating Western State Conference schools, and just 14 strokes back of the top conference school, College of the Canyons.

The Owls will resume WSC play next Wednesday when they host the rest of the conference at san Dimas Canyon Golf Course, for a 11:00 AM tee-time.
