So Wins SoCal Title; Lopez Finishes Fourth
Temecula, CA -- For the first time in Citrus College history, the Owls had a player win the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Individual Championship. Freshman Lexandra So became the first player in the school's history to earn the feat when she bested 34 other individuals to win claim the individual crown. Not far behind her was teammate and fellow frosh Jamie Lopez, who finished in fourth place overall.
So opened up the weekend on Monday morning with a 75, putting her in a first place tie with Leleaga Meredith of Irvine Valley College. Lopez meanwhile, was just five strokes back in a tie for fifth place with a first round at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course. On Tuesday, So came out firing and carded a 73, for a two day total of 148 and low round of the weekend. Her 148 cleared her from Leleaga by seven total strokes giving her the victory. Lopez meanwhile also cut a stroke from her first day with a round of 79 on Tuesday. That was the fourth best round of that day, and gave her a two day total of 159, good enough for fourth place and just four strokes off the second place finisher from Irvine Valley.
With their strong performances, both women move onto the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships at Morro Bay Golf Course in Morro Bay, CA. The first round is scheduled for a 8:30 AM start on Monday November 16th.
