Morro Bay, CA -- With the best teams from across the State going head to head on the course that hosts the CCCAA State Championships, the Citrus College Women's Golf program got a preview of things to come over the weekend. If Sunday and Monday's performance were any indication, the Owls have a lot to be positive about moving forward, as they finished in second place out of 18 teams.

Sophomore Lexandra So kicked the tournament off on Sunday morning with a solid 73, the second lowest round of the day. Sophomore Jamie Lopez finished six strokes back with a 79, while freshman Lexi Tunstad carded an 86. Sophomore Brittany Thelen rounded out the first day scores with a 94, that gave the Owls a one day total of 332. The 332 put the Owls in third place behind first place Santa Barbara City College (314) and another conference rival College of the Canyons (330), and in a tie with College of the Desert.

On the second day, everyone improved their previous days output except for So, who still came into the clubhouse with a team low round of 76. Lopez dropped a pair of shots with a 77, while Tunstad posted an impressive 79. Thelen came in with a 93, and though she didn't score, freshman Mackenzy Shafer dropped five shots and came in with a respectable 95.

As a team, the Owls knocked off seven strokes with a 325. Their two day combined total of 657 put the Owls in second place behind Santa Barbara and just six strokes in front of third place Sierra College, and nine strokes in front of fourth place Reedley College.

Individually, So had the second best weekend with a combined 149 seven strokes out of first place. Lopez came in seventh with a two day total of 156, while Tunstad finished just inside the Top 20 with a tie for 19th place with a total two round score of 165.

The Owls will be back in action this coming Monday when they host the rest of the Western State Conference at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course. The first group is set to head out at 11:00 AM.
