Lopez Signs With Holy Names

Glendora, CA -- Two days after helping lead the Citrus College Women's Golf program to their best ever season, when the Owls finished as the runner-up at the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships, sophomore Jamie Lopez has signed a scholarship offer. Lopez will be attending and competing for NCAA DII Holy Names University in 2016.

"Holy Names offered me a great opportunity to continue playing golf and attending school on scholarship," Lopez said. "It's a program on the rise, and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Lopez just wrapped up what is arguably the best individual regular season in program history. Lopez was the individual runner-up at the 2015 CCCAA State Championships with a two round total of 154 at Morro Bay Golf Course. At the 2015 CCCAA Southern California Championships Lopez tied for the low individual total of the week with a two-day score of 147. On the season, Lopez averaged a round of 77.2 in WSC play. She was named an All-State selection and a 1st team All-WSC selection.

"Citrus has given me time to grow as a golfer, and figure out where I wanted to go afterwards. Trip has helped me improve my game, and the ability to be able to practice on campus at The Range is something you just don't get everywhere."

Lopez also had an outstanding freshman campaign where she finished the conference season with the second lowest scoring round of any golfer at 77.8. She finished third individual at the 2014 WSC Championships, 4th individually at the 2014 CCCAA SoCal Championships, and 3rd individually at the 2014 CCCAA State Championships.

"It has been a pleasure to coach someone with the ability and work ethic of Jamie these last two years," said Citrus College Head Women's Golf Coach Julian "Trip" Horton. "From the get go, I knew Jamie was going to be a special talent, and that played over the course of these last two seasons. I know without a doubt that she will continue to excel next year for Holy Names."
