Ventura, CA - The 2016 Citrus College Women's Golf team kicked off their 2016 season on Sunday and Monday at the 2016 South Coast Classic Tournament at Buena Ventura Golf Course. The Owls finished a somewhat disappointing 7th place in the South Coast portion of the event, but also finished a promising 2nd place when it counted most during the WSC Neutral portion of the tournament.

The first day saw sophomore Lexi Tunstad led the Owls into the clubhouse with a round of 81. Freshmen Lauren Madueno was the next lowest scorer with a 93. Freshman Alexandra Martinez was next in with a 99, while freshmen Angela Adams and Bruna Prestes each had rounds of 114.

Things got better for the Owls on the second day, when the scores counted towards the individual and team WSC standings. Tunstad was once again the low-man with a 76, good enough for third lowest score of any individual from any WSC school on the afternoon. Checking in behind her was Martinez who fired a 80, while Madueno came in with a 98. Adams managed to shave two strokes off her round to post the final scoring round with a 112.

As a team, Citrus posted a round of 376 on the day which was good enough for second place among the seven competing conference programs. The Owls finished well behind first place and run-away winner Santa Barbara City College, but also well ahead of third place Antelope Valley College who came in third place.

The Owls will be back in tournament action once again this weekend when they take part in the 2016 COD Tournament at Bermuda Dunes Country Club. The first round tees off on Friday at 7:30 AM.
