Tunstad and So to Hit Links for Four-Years in 2017-2018

Glendora, CA – Citrus College's Lexi Tunstad and Lexandra So will be enrolling at Whittier College and Hawaii Pacific University this Fall. Tunstad and So were both members of the 2015 Citrus College Women's Golf team that finished in second place in the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships, going down as the best team in program history.

Tunstad is the third member of the Citrus College golf program in two years to head South on the 605 Freeway to play for Whittier, following in the footsteps of former men's players Tyler Hoefferle and Tyler Bliss who played for the Poets during the 2016-2017 season.

"Whittier provided me a chance to continue my education in ways I never thought possible. I never thought I'd get a chance to go to a great private school, and continue to play golf at the same time," Tunstad said. "They're giving me the chance to fulfil my dreams."  

Tunstad's career began in promising fashion in 2015, when she helped the Owls to a second place team finish in the Western State Conference Championships, CCCAA Southern California Championships, and CCCAA State Championships.  En route to the best team season in Citrus College Women's Golf history, Tunstad posted an average of 83.4, and finished eighth individually in the entire WSC.

As a sophomore, Tunstad saw her average fall two strokes a round, shooting an average of 81.7 per 18 holes. She also appeared in the CCCAA State Championships in 2016, as an individual, finishing in the top third of all individuals. At the completion of the WSC season, Tunstad fired a season low of 72, securing a seventh place overall finish in conference play.Tunstad is one of just four Citrus College women's golfers to participate in back-to-back CCCAA State Championship events. 

"Citrus has been everything for me. Out of high school I wasn't sure that I wanted to keep playing golf. Once I got here, things changed. I never thought I would be playing a four-year school, and Citrus has helped provide me the opportunity to continue," Tunstad said. "The program here at Citrus has improved my game. The competition was obviously a lot tougher than high school, and it's made me be a better player. Out of high school I wasn't ready to play at the level of the four-year schools, but thanks to Citrus and the time I've spent here, I'm ready now."

So wrapped up her playing career in 2015, sitting out this past season before transferring to Hawaii Pacific in the Spring of 2016. So, did not play for the Sharks in 2016-2017, but will begin her four-year career in 2017-2018.

"I thought Hawaii Pacific provided a great opportunity to continue my education while still getting the chance to play golf," So said. "The campus is obviously in such a beautiful place, and I'm extremely excited about this chance."

So will go down in the Citrus history books as one of its most successful individual players of all time. So burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2014. During that freshman campaign, So was named the WSC Women's Golf of the Year, after capturing the individual WSC crown with an average score of 77.2. So also won the 2014 CCCAA SoCal Championship as an individual, and finished in 4th individually at the 2014 CCCAA State Championships.  

"Citrus was wonderful. It will always hold a special place in my heart," So said. "The time spent here at Citrus, will be something I always remember, and it's a time in my life that helped prepare me for my future."

As a sophomore So helped lead the aforementioned Owls to their best finish in team history. So would finish in second place individually in the 2015 WSC Championships, and finished third at the 2015 SoCal Championships. She wrapped up her illustrious career with a fourth place individual finish at the 2015 CCCAA State Championships.

"Lexi and Lexandra played a significant role in helping to put our program on the map," said Citrus College Head Women's Golf Coach Julian "Trip" Horton. "We are forever indebted to those two for their contributions to our program, and are extremely excited to see them continue their playing careers for these two four-year universirties."
