Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomore Jasmine Williams had a hand in both of the Owls' goals on Tuesday afternoon, and helped guide them past visiting Santa Monica College. Both goals came in the first 25 minutes, and the Owls hung on for a 2-1 win.

The first score for Citrus came in the 13th minute when Williams dribbled the ball deep into Santa Monica territory and drew the two remaining defenders to her. Once covered Williams flicked the ball back into the box to a wide open Jordyn Haynes who quickly buried it for a 1-0 lead.

11 minutes later, the Williams did practically the same thing. Drawing plenty of attention in the box and then passing the ball back toward sophomore Vanessa Plascencia who scored her second of the season to make it 2-0 Citrus.

The Owls dominated the entire first half, firing off 15 shots to Santa Monica's four. The Owls defense was superb throughout much of the contest, with their lone slip up coming on a miscommunication early into the second half.

With Santa Monica threatening on a counter, freshman keeper Dominique Oro came out of the goal to help freshman defender Jessica Tullius on the Corsairs' best scoring threat. Oro came in for a tackle, but missed leaving Tullius alone with Santa Monica's Meg Pierce. The two battled for the ball, but Pierce came away with it, and put it in the back of a practically empty net to make it 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

Santa Monica hung even with the Owls in the second half as each team fired off six shots a piece. That goal though in the 62nd minute would be the final of the contest, as Citrus' defense held for their 12th win of the season, the second most wins for an Citrus Women's team in a season.

With the win, Citrus improves to 12-1-2 overall and more importantly 8-1 in conference play, keeping them just ahead of College of the Canyons for the WSC South lead. The Owls will be back in Citrus Stadium on Friday afternoon when they host LA Valley College in another conference tilt. Kick-off is set for 12:00 PM.
