Williams Named POY; Tracey COY

Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomore Jasmine Williams was named the Western State Conference South Division Player of the Year, the first in Citrus Women's Soccer history, and Head Coach Tim Tracey was named the Western State Conference South Division Coach of the Year recently. Along with those two honors nine other Owls dotted the All-WSC South first, second, and honorable mention teams.

Williams broke the program record for goals and points in a season and also tied the program record for assists in a single season as she helped push the Owls to their first post-season berth in program history. Williams scored 18 goals and handed out 10 assists for a total of 46 points, besting the previous point total by nine points, a record she herself held for her efforts in 2010. Williams ends her Citrus career as the all-time career leader in goals (34) and points (84) and tied for the career lead in assists (15).

Tracey meanwhile, earned the honor for the second time in his career as he guided Citrus to their best ever season in program history. The Owls went 15-3-3 overall and 11-2-1 in Western State Conference South Division play, finishing in second place the highest ever finish for the Owls. Most importantly, Tracey took the Owls to the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs for the first time in program history.

Earning 1st team All-WSC South honors for Citrus were sophomore defenders Jade Vehawn and Elizabeth Johnson and sophomore midfielders Valerie Eyer and Vanessa Plascencia. Vehawn and Johnson were both the anchors for the Owls last line of defense, but also contributed on the offensive side of the ball. Vehawn scored twice on the year and handed out five assists, while Johnson scored three times and also had a hand in two assists. Vehawn will finish her two year Citrus career tied for the program record for career assists with 15 and fourth all-tiime with 35 career points.

Eyer and Plascencia held down the middle of the field for Citrus in 2012. Plascencia scored two times and also had five assists on the season. Eyer meanwhile had a pair of goals and a trio of assists. Eyer will finish eight career assists, the fifth best mark in Citrus history.

On the 2nd team were freshman goal keeper Dominique Oro, sophomore defender Audrianna Areceneaux, and freshman midfielder Leandra Escobar. Oro had a strong freshman campaign in goal with a 0.91 GAA, the third best in program history, and 48 saves. Oro also had three shutouts in goal. Arceneaux was also a key figure for the Owls on their defensive front. In two seasons Arceneaux appeared in 36 games for the Owls with 30 starts. Escobar meanwhile had a great start to her Citrus career scoring five goals and handing out one assist.

Rounding out the honors was sophomore midfielder Julia Wills and freshman forward Jordyn Haynes. Wills scored five goals and five assists in 2012, running her career totals to 10 and nine respectively. She is fourth all time in career assists and seventh all-time in points with 24 career points. Haynes meanwhile put together a great freshman season. Haynes scored eight goals for Citrus in 2012, the second most on the team, and added two assists for a total of 18 points.
