Oxnard, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Soccer team started their 2013 season in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon as the Owls waited till the last minute to preserve a 2-2 tie with Mira Costa College. Citrus trailed 2-0 late in the match, but got two goals within three minutes of each other to grab the tie in the opening match of the 2013 Oxnard College Seabreeze Tournament.

The two schools played to an even draw through the first 45 minutes. Both teams were aggressive, but neither found the back of the net. That changed in a hurry once the second half rolled around, as the Spartans scored in the 53rd minute and then 10 minutes later in the 63rd minute to put the Owls in a deep hole.

The Owls rallied though and did so thanks to some promising passing from freshman Kacie Licata. Licata first connected with sophomore Sheyla Sanchez to cut their deficit in half in the 84th minute. In the 87th minute Licata then whipped a pass to freshman Savanna Lujan, who promptly buried the ball, and saved the Owls from dropping their season opening contest.

With the tie, Citrus' record moves to 0-0-1 on the extremely young season. The Owls will be back out at Oxnard College come Sunday morning when they take on College of the Sequoias, with first touch set for 10:00 AM.
