Just Not Where It Counts

Glendora, CA -- If you looked at just the box score of the Citrus College Women's Soccer teams contest with State #10 San Bernardino Valley College on Tuesday evening, you'd likely think there was a different outcome than what was the reality. Citrus dominated nearly every statistical facet of the game, just not where it counted, as they ended up on the wrong side of a 0-1 loss to the Wolverines.

San Bernardino Valley came out of the gate strong, and knocked the Owls back early with a goal just six minutes into the game. Citrus didn't rattle though as they went on to out-shoot the Wolverines 6-2 in the first half, and earn a total of five corner kicks in that first 45 minutes. Despite all that firepower, the Owls were never able to find the back of the net.

The same held true in the second half. Once again, Citrus edged San Bernardino, taking six more shots, compared to just four for their opponents. The Owls also collected four more corners, but still they were left with nothing to show for it. Citrus had a number of big opportunities late in the game including back to back corners in the 85' minute, and a shot from freshman Cindy Ramirez in the 89' minute, but the Wolverine keeper made a strong save on that final chance and sent the Owls back to the lockeroom with an L.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-2-2 on the year. The Owls will get another tough test next week when they go on the road to take on Los Angeles Pierce College. That match is set for 4:00 PM next Tuesday the 24th.
