Glendora, CA -- Over the past 270 minutes of play in Citrus College Stadium, the Citrus College Women's Soccer team had been held to just one goal despite firing off 57 total shots in that span. Through 45 minutes of Friday's contest with visiting Santa Monica College, it seemed as if that match would prove to be more of the same. Instead the Owls finally scored a pair of goals, coming from behind to take a 2-1 win over the Corsairs.

Both teams took three shots each in the first half, but the Owls won the possession battle, earning a trio of corners in the process. Early in the second half it was a similar story. Santa Monica though would take advantage of one of their early second half chances, capitalizing by a mistake on the Citrus back line that led to a Corsair 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

Over the next 20 minutes the Owls took some more chances, but couldn't quite get anything to go. That all changed in the 77th minute. Freshman Rebekah Evans got the ball deep in the Santa Monica box on the left side. Evans beat one defender and then kicked the ball past the Corsair keeper towards to back post to tie the game up at one goal each.

The goal seemed to ignite the Owls as they played with a greater sense of urgency for the remaining 13 minutes. That urgency led to another score in the 83rd minute. Freshman Kacie Licata got the ball near the out of bounds line on the edge of the Santa Monica box on the right side. Licata then sent a picture perfect cross into the box, where it travelled over the keepers outstretched arms and off the head of sophomore Leandra Escobar, clinching the game for Citrus.

With the win, Citrus improves to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back in Citrus Stadium for another conference contest this Tuesday when they host LA Valley College. First touch is set for 4:00 PM.
