Glendora, CA -- If the Citrus College Women's Soccer team was going to keep pace with State #8 College of the Canyons in the race for first place in the Western State Conference South Division, they were going to undoubtedly need a result on Friday afternoon when they hosted the Cougars. The Owls got just that as they were fit to be tied with Canyons 1-1.

The game was fairly even throughout. Canyons controlled possession in the first half, but not by much, outshooting Citrus 6-2, despite the Owls earning two corners to Canyons' one in that first 45 minutes. Neither team would find the back of the net though as halftime came and went with both teams tied at zeros.

In the second half, it was the same story. Canyons outshot the Owls, but not by much, 8-7. The Cougars would put themselves on the board first though, when their leading scorer Stacey Atwater put the ball in the back of the net in the 70th minute.

Citrus would continue to apply pressure, and got that all important equalizer late in the game. Freshman Kacie Licata, who has been causing havoc for opposing defenses all season long, sent a cross into the box that found the head of freshman Daniella Flores. Flores headed the ball into the net in the 87th minute, giving the Owls the much needed result.

With the tie, Citrus' record moves to 6-3-4 overall and 4-0-2 in conference play. The Owls stay just two points behind Canyons in the conference race with the tie. Citrus now faces a tough four game stretch, in which they'll play all four games on the road. That road streak starts next Tuesday at West Los Angeles College, with a start time set for 2:00 PM.
