Glendora, CA -- After posting a pair of 3-1 victories over the weekend in their season openers, the Citrus College Women's Soccer team had the tables turned on them on Wednesday night in their home opener against Ventura College. The Owls made a committed of defensive lapses and the Pirates made them pay as they handed Citrus their first loss of the year 3-1.

Citrus' first miscue came in the 17th minute when a failure to clear the ball, led to a score by Ventura's Sabrina Lopez. Lopez did it again, when Citrus turned the ball over in the midfield and then missed another opportunity to clear the ball once again putting Citrus in a 2-0 hole in the 39th minute.

The Owls would cut the lead in half shortly into the second period, when sophomore Natalia Ponce found freshman Ivana Lizama in the 47th minute. Citrus would get more chances, but failed to convert late, and another missed clearance led to a 25 yard laser from Ventura's Miranda Campos in the 85th minute to seal the victory for the Pirates.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-1 on the year. The Owls will be back at home on Friday and host Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 PM.
