Glendora, CA — After suffering a disappointing loss last week to Los Angeles Pierce College, in match where they controlled the tempo of the game, the Owls didn't let the same happen again on Tuesday when they opened up Western State Conference South Division play by hosting West Los Angeles College. The Owls scored time after time, and got a goal and two assists from sophomore Cindy Ramirez in a 4-1 victory.

The Owls scored nearly right off the bat, scoring less than five minutes into the game after sophomore Allesandra Perez-Negron took a pair of feeds from sophomores Rebekah Evans and Cindy Ramirez to make it 1-0.

After that, Citrus slowed down a bit. The Owls had a few chances, but really struggled to connect deep in the West LA box, until earning a free kick late in the first half. In the 40 minute mark, sophomore Jessie Gener took a free kick for Citrus from about 30 yards out. Gener's ball found the head of sophomore Natalia Ponce whose ball then found the toe of sophomore Amber Mace, putting Citrus up 2-0.

The Owls were quite able to rest on their laurels though, as the Wildcats sprung a goal on Citrus during first half stoppage time to cut the Owls' lead in half. West LA seemed to carry some of that momentum into the second half against Citrus. While the Owls clearly dominated the ball, the Wildcats frustrated Citrus just enough offensively to keep them off balance.

That changed late in the game when Ramirez took things into her own hands. After receiving the ball via a throw in, Ramirez made three defenders miss before firing a rocket from 25 yards out and over the outstretched hands of the Wildcat keeper to make it 3-1 in the 75th minute. Ramirez chipped in again just before the end of the game when she fed a ball to freshman Berlyn Pedroza putting the game away for good at 4-1.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back home against on Friday when they host Glendale College at 3:00 PM.
