Santa Monica, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Soccer team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon to take on a tough Santa Monica College squad in a crucial early season Western State Conference South Division match-up. The Owls hung tough with the Corsairs but a goal midway through the second half gave Santa Monica what they needed, in a 1-2 loss for Citrus.

The two teams traded blows on the day, with both teams taking nearly the same amount of shots on goal as the other. The Owls would do their best to keep a clean sheet in the first, but Santa Monica struck first with a goal 37 minutes into the match.

Citrus would pull even in the second half, thanks to a strike from sophomore Cindy Ramirez off a pass from sophomore Natalia Ponce in the 46th minute. It marked the third straight game in which Ramirez had scored a goal. The Owls would try to cling to the tie, but Santa Monica got the best of them in the 66th minute as they sent Citrus to their first loss in WSC South play this year.

With the loss, Citrus falls back to .500 at 5-5 overall and 2-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will be on the road again this Friday when they travel to a much improved Los Angeles Valley College (5-3-1, 0-1-1) for a 4:00 PM start.
