Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomore midfielder Natalia Ponce has become the first Citrus College Women's Soccer player from the 2014 season to accept a scholarship offer. Ponce recently signed with NCAA Division I University of Lousiana at Monroe, where she will enroll in the Fall of 2015.

"Monroe gave me a great opportunity to come in and contribute right away, while allowing me to continue my education on a scholarship," Ponce said. "Throughout the recruiting process the coaching staff made me feel welcome, and like it was the place for me."

Ponce wrapped up an impressive two-year career for the Owls this past season, earning 1st team All-WSC South honors. Ponce started all 21 games for Citrus, handing out seven assists, scoring once, and totaling nine points. As a freshman Ponce was a 2nd team All-WSC South selection after appearing in all 22 matches with 20 starts, scoring a goal and handing out three assists.

"Citrus has played a big role for me the last two years. I wouldn't be in this position today without it," Ponce said. "Coach Tim [Tracey] and Brian [Dorman] helped me improve my game and gave me the chance to showcase my abilities. The coaching and athletic department staff at Citrus has been supportive and helpful every step of the way."

In addition to her success on the field, Ponce was also a two-time Citrus College Scholar Baller and was also a two-time All-Western State Conference All-Academic team member. She concluded her career by being named to the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association State Scholar-Athlete team this past month.

"Natalia is the epitome of the type of athlete that we try to recruit and nurture here at Citrus," said Citrus College Head Women's Soccer Coach Tim Tracey. "Natalia didn't just talk a big game; she let her actions speak for herself on the pitch and in the classroom. We know that Natalia will continue to find success in her next phase of life , and we're excited to watch it happen."
