Glendora, CA — After starting off the season with disappointing back to back losses, the Citrus College Women's Soccer team may have reached a turning point on Tuesday evening when they hosted a red-hot San Bernardino Valley College squad. The Owls upset the Wolverines 1-0, handing San Bernardino their first loss this season.

The Owls defense set the tone early, hanging tough with a program that had averaged five goals a game through it's first five contests. San Bernardino earned five corner kicks in the opening frame, but Citrus held the Wolverines to just four total shots in the first 45 minutes, a total matched by the Owls. At the half, the game was scoreless.

San Bernardino came out the half firing, getting off the first two shots of the second frame. On the second shot, the Owls quickly countered, drawing a foul a quarter of the way down the field. Citrus quickly reset the ball and got it to the feet of sophomore midfielder Zariah Silva who split a number of Valley defenders and then got it to sophomore Alyssa Selio who pump faked and then went cross goal, burying the ball and giving the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

After the, Citrus packed it in, and tried to keep San Bernardino Valley out of goal. San Bernardino would get off two more shots before the whistle blew, and the Owls were able to keep a clean sheet, as freshman keeper Amber Henry recorded her first shutout to go along with four saves.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-2. The Owls will be back out the road this coming Friday when they have another tough test on their hands at Los Angeles Pierce College. First touch is set for 4:00 PM.
