Glendora, CA -- In crucial first half of Western State Conference South Division play meeting, the Citrus College Women's Soccer team made some great calls on the field and lead twice during the course of the match. Unfortunately for the Owls, visiting Santa Monica College came up with a response each time as the two teams settled for a 2-2 tie.

The Owls' first strike came 12 minutes into the contest when freshman Jaline Miranda took a pass from sophomore Joni Gener on a long free kick and pushed it past the Santa Monica keeper for a 1-0 lead. Santa Monica's first response would come just over seven minutes later when they made it 1-1 in the 20th minute.

Citrus would keep putting pressure on the Corsairs as they outshot Santa Monica 7-3 in the first half, and earned three corners, while the Corsairs had none. One of those corners would prove pivotal as the Owls pulled off a perfectly executed play to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Zariah Silva got things going with her corner kick to the right of the goal. Silva placed the ball perfectly towards the top of the box near the closest corner to her. The Owls sent a fake towards the ball and then let it roll to sophomore Karyn Bernal who in one fell kick put the ball in the upper left hand corner of the net well out of the reach of the Corsair keeper.

The Owls' excitement over that goal in the 41st minute would only last 12 minutes into the second half when Citrus misplayed a ball they were playing back towards their defense. Santa Monica made them pay as they converted on the mishandling of the ball to tie the game at two. Over the final 22 minutes of the match, Santa Monica would get two more good looks at it, while the Owls were held to zero shots in that final stretch.

With the tie, Citrus' record moves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back at home on Tuesday when they host first place Los Angeles Valley College at 4:00 PM.
