Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Women's Soccer team continued to build on their recent success on Friday afternoon when they hosted local rival Mt. San Antonio College. The Owls ran their win streak to three matches with a 2-1 win over the visiting Mounties.

The Owls came out firing in the first half, putting together what was arguably their most aggressive and impressive 45 minutes of offensive soccer. The Owls managed six shots in the first frame, but more importantly had solid looks at the goal, culminating in a strike in the 14th minute. Sophomore Jaline Miranda took a pass from freshman Danielle Lagrave and fired a rocket from 20 yards out that ripped the back of the net.

Citrus would stay out in front of the Mounties 1-0 through the first half and then added to their lead just moments into the second half. After a foul by Mt. SAC, freshman Jacqueline Mejia took a free-kick 30 yards out from goal. Mejia struck the ball well and placed out of the extended reach of the Mt. SAC keeper to put Citrus up 2-0.

The Owls would continue to put pressure on the Mountie defense outshooting Mt. SAC 9-7 in the final 45 minutes. Still Mt. SAC had their opportunities and drew a penalty kick in in the 59th minute. The ensuing shot by the Mounties went to sophomore keeper Amber Henry's left. Henry moved the right way, but her outstretched fingertips grazed the ball but couldn't keep it out of the net giving up the Mounties only score on the day. Henry would finish the day with five saves on six shots faced.

With the win, Citrus improves to 5-3 o the year. The Owls will be back home on Tuesday night when they host Santa Monica College. First touch is set for 6:00 PM.
