Citrus Digs Deep to Remain Unbeaten in Conference

No. 19-ranked Citrus College had to dig deep to walk away with 3-3 a tie at Santa Monica Community College Friday.

The Owls, who also rank No. 18 in the CCCSIA rankings, boast a 7-2-2 overall, 3-0-1 Western State Conference mark and is unbeaten in its last seven games. The Corsairs sit 2-5-2, 1-1-1 on the year.

Santa Monica struck first in the 22nd minute, but Berenice Mancinas responded for the Owls in the 38th minute off an Elisa Salas assist.

Just a minute before halftime, the Corsairs scored again to hold a 2-1 lead at the break.

Santa Monica put some pressure on the Owls in the second half and increased its lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute.

Citrus dug deep and pulled within one in the 69th minute when Kaylee Sanchez found the back of the net. Ashley Virgen grabbed the equalizer in the 75th minute to give the Owls a share of the outcome.

The Owls head to the College of the Canyons on Friday, Oct. 15, kicking off at 4:00 p.m.
