Citrus College got back to its winning ways with a 1-0 defeat over the College of the Desert in non-conference action Monday.

The Owls improve to 8-3-2 on the year, while the Roadrunners slip to 9-5-0.

Abigail Salvador gave the Owls their first look of the game in the 16th minute after chasing down a long diagonal ball and firing it off at the Desert goalkeeper. It resulted in a corner kick which led to an Owl penalty kick, but the Roadrunner goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless.

Citrus out-shot Desert 14-to-10 but couldn't find the back of the net until the 74th minute. After the Roadrunners couldn't get the ball out of their defensive third, Kaylee Sanchez capitalized from long range off a Berenice Mancinas pass to put the Owls in front 1-0.

Desert had one last Hail Mary shot before the final whistle blew but Deziree Valdez easily scooped it up to preserve the shutout. She finished with seven saves in the victory.

The Owls turn right around to take on West LA on the road on Tuesday, kicking off at 2:00 p.m.
