Seven Owls Earn All-WSC South Honors

Seven Citrus College women's soccer players grabbed spots on the All-Western State Conference-South Team after helping the Owls qualify for their fifth SoCal Regional Tournament in six years.

Berenice Mancinas, Brianna Herrera-Martinez and Abigail Salvador earned first-team honors, while Kaylee Sanchez and Ashley Virgen found spots on the second team. Janelle Alvarado and Elisa Salas picked up Honorable Mention.

Mancinas started 19 games for the Owls, scoring nine times (fourth in the WSC-South) and assisting nine other times (second in conference) to finish the year with 27 points (third in WSC-South). She had two game-winning goals and boasted a .525 shots on goal percentage.

Herrera-Martinez made 18 starts in the backline, helping the Owls post eight shutouts and hold opponents to an average of 1.48 goals per game.

Salvador appeared in 19 games, making 17 starts for Citrus. She scored seven times and assisted twice on the year, with one of her goals coming as a game-winner.

Sanchez helped lock down the Citrus midfield and played in 19 games for the Owls. She scored eight times, including one game-winner, and assisted twice on the year.

Virgen started all 20 games for the Owls in the backline, helping the Owls limit their opponents' attempts. She also got in on the attack and scored three times (one game-winner) and assisted three times.

Alvarado played in 18 games for Citrus in the midfield and scored twice on the year, with both coming as game-winners.

Salas played in 19 games, making 11 starts for the Owls and had three goals and an assist on the year. Two of her goals proved to be game-winners, including a goal in Citrus' most recent 8-0 victory over West LA to end the regular season.

Citrus heads into postseason with an 11-5-4 overall record as it takes on Mt. San Antonio on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for the first round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional.
