Citrus College kept its unbeaten Western State Conference record intact Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over LA Valley College.

The Owls improve to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference action, while the Monarchs drop to 3-7-1 on the year and will have to look elsewhere for their first WSC win (0-3).

Citrus pressed early and fired off a shot in the first five minutes of action as Jayme Beatty forced the LA Valley goalkeeper to make a save. Beatty had another look on frame less than 10 minutes later, but once again the Monarch goalkeeper was there.

The Owls broke through in the 33rd minute as Dianna Garcia found Jordan Crooymans for her first collegiate goal, putting the visitors up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Citrus grabbed some insurance in the 57th minute after drawing a penalty kick. Maddy Moris – who made five saves in goal for the Owls – made her way to the spot from the other end of the field and converted the PK to put the Owls up 2-0.

LA Valley didn't give up, however, and managed to sneak in a goal in the waning seconds of the match to steal the shutout from the Owls.

Citrus returns home to host Glendale College on Friday at 3 p.m.
