Owls Knock Off Santa Monica In Dual Meet

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Swim team hosted their first dual meet in the last three years on Friday afternoon, and came away with the win. The Owls used their depth, and posted a 103-85 victory over visiting Santa Monica College.

The Owls got the meet started on the right foot, when freshmen Lora Marquez-Salgado, Kirsten Pampu, Chelsea Fujita-Haffner, and Marianna Preciado combined to finish the 200 Yard Medley Relay in a time of 2:08.88, the fastest time by a relay team this year by over three seconds.

Freshman Katherine Cuevas followed that up with a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle, posting a strong time of 2:27.46. Moment's later freshmen Olga Quiroz take second in the 50 Free with a time of 30.85, out touching fellow frosh Candelaria Baca and Desiree Morales who finished with times of 31.11 and 31.14 respectively.

Two events later, it was Fujita-Haffner's time to shine again, as she won the 100 Yard Fly with a time of 1:06.21, a full second faster than her previous best effort this year. Two more events after that, it was Marquez-Salgado who posted a personal best, finishing second in the 100 Yard Back with a time of 1:12.33 a full second of her best time posted almost a month ago.

Freshman Marianna Preciado capped off the day with a first place finish in the 100 yard Breast Stroke. Preciado swam the event in a time of 1:22.90 which was another personal best, knocking over two and a half seconds of her previous best effort.

The Owls will take a break from competition this next week, before rounding out the regular season on Thursday April 18th at the three day Western State Conference Championships. The event will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, all day long at Los Angeles Valley College.
