Pampu Paces Owls at WSC Pentathlon

Ventura, CA -- The 2014 Citrus College Swim season got underway on Saturday afternoon in Ventura at the 2014 Western State Conference Pentathlon. The meet, which features five different swimming events and combines to the times to find an individual winner, showcased the WSC's best all-round swimmers. Sophomore Kirsten Pampu paced the Owls at the event, with the highest overall finish in 37th place.

Pampu and a host of other Owls had a strong day. Pampu was consistent across the board, finishing 40th in the 100 Back (1:16.03), 35th in the 100 Breast (1:25.15), and 30th in the 100 Free (1:02.48). Her time in the 100 Breast was the best of any Owl in that particular event.

Aside from Pampu, sophomore Chelsea Fujita-Haffner was strong in the water. Fujita-Hafner competed in four of the five events, finishing 10th overall in the 100 Fly (1:06.81), 11th overall in the 100 Free (59.54), and 18th overall in the 100 Individual Medley (1:11.92). Her time in all three of those events were Citrus bests. Rounding out the top times was freshman Kimberly Torres. Torres had the top time for Citrus in the 100 Back finishing 39th overall with a time of (1:15.44).

The Owls will be back in the water this coming weekend when they take part in the two day Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. Day one of the event starts this coming Friday at 8:00 AM.
