Owls Keep Pace On Day Two of Championships

Ventura, CA — The Citrus College Swim team kept pace with the rest of the pack on Friday evening at the 2015 Western State Conference Swimming Championships. The Owls added 157 points to their overall point total and sit just 20 points outside a top four finish.

 The evening started off in the 200 Medley Relay where sophomore Kimberly Torres and freshmen Cassidy Miller, Miranda Furuto, and Abbey Sorensen put together a fourth place finish with a time of 1:57.84.

In the 400 IM, the Owls picked up three top eight finishes and invaluable points as Torres (5:26.74) finished fifth, freshman Katelyn Rivas (5:29.41) finished sixth, and sophomore Christina Tereszczuk (5:44.98) finished in 8th place.

Furuto picked things up from there finishing in third place in the 100 Fly (1:02.63). Freshmen Elaine Hodge (1:06.57 | 8th Place), Hailey Bickett (1:13.72 | 11th Place), and Klarissa Gastelum-Zavala (1:22.21 | 15th Place) also earned points in the 100 Fly.

In the 200 Free, freshman Alexandria Romero picked up the lone points for the Owls, finishing in  12th place overall with a time of 2:11.67. In the 100 Breast, it was Miller who was the top Owl, finishing in 7th place with a time of 1:15.57. Freshman Anahit Markosian (1:17.60 | 10th Place) and freshman Delaney Moller (1:20.92 | 16th Place) also nabbed points in the event.

Freshman Carly Casillas picked up Citrus' only points in the 100 Back finishing in 16th place with a time of 1:15.90. The team wrapped up the night with the 800 Free Relay, taking 5th place with a time of 8:45.19 and Sorensen, Romero, Rivas, and Hodge competing.

At day's end Citrus had bumped their point total from 69 points to 226. The Owls sit in 7th place with one day to go, but 20 points separate the Owls from fourth place College for the Canyons (246). The last day's events will consist of the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and finish with the 400 Free Relay.
