Ventura, CA — The Citrus College Women's Swim program had one of it's strongest team showings in program history at the 2015 Western State Conference Swimming Championships. After finishing in eight place in it's inaugural season back two years ago and ninth place last year, the Owls finished in fifth place out of 10 teams at this year's conference championships and were just 6.5 points shy of a fourth place finish and 25 points shy of a Top 3 finish.

The final day opened up with the most grueling event of the weekend, the 1650 Free. Freshman Elaine Hodge finished 5th overall with a time of 19:30.88, while the Owls also got points in the event from Alexandria Romero (8th Place | 20:27.97), Carly Casillas (13th Place | 21:34.24), and Sara Huelskamp (14th Place | 21:34.35).

In the 200 Back, sophomore Kimberly Torres picked up some valuable points for the Owls, placing 7th with a time of 2:29.47. Fellow sophomore Christina Tereszczuk also placed, finishing in 13th with a time of 2:42.67. The next event up for the Owls was the 100 Free, where freshman Miranda Furuto finished fourth overall with a time of 56.54. Freshman Abbey Sorensen added a 9th place finish for Citrus with a time of 59.32.

Freshman Cassidy Miller would finish 9th in the 200 Breast posting a time of 2:46.35. Teammate and fellow frosh Anahit Markosian would finish 11th with a time of 2:51.68, while freshman Delaney Moller made it three point winners in the event with a 13th place finish and time of 2:51.89. Freshmen Katelyn Rivas (6th Place | 2:42.92), Hailey Bickett (7th Place | 2:46.21), and Klarissa Gastelum-Zavala (9th Place | 3:18.84) all grabbed big points for Citrus in the 200 Fly.

With this weekend's performances, the 2015 season has come to a close for most of the Owls. A few swimmers may have a chance at qualifying for the 2015 CCCAA State Championships hosted by East Los Angeles College that take place April 30-May 2. The announcements will not come out until later this week.
