Owls Improve at WSC No. 2 in Santa Monica

Citrus College Swimming delivered a robust performance at the second Western State Conference Meet of the season, hosted by Santa Monica College on Saturday, March 15th. The Owls turned in several standout individual and relay performances, highlighted by personal bests, season-best times, and top finishes. 

The Citrus women's team opened with a solid showing in the relays, finishing 5th in the 400-yard Medley Relay with a time of 5:05.20. The team also secured a 9th-place finish in the 400-yard Free Relay with a time of 4:44.63. On the men's side, the Owls claimed 7th in the 400-yard Free Relay with a time of 3:50.99. 

Sophomore Hannah Wu led the charge for the women's team with a series of impressive swims. Wu placed 5th overall in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:09.43 and took 6th in the 100-yard Breast at 1:22.16. She capped off her day with a season-best time of 2:53.94 in the 200-yard Breast, securing 4th place. 

Kori Cunningham continued her strong season, finishing 2nd in the 50-yard Free with a swift time of 26.29. She added a 3rd-place finish in both the 100-yard Free (56.13) and the 200-yard Free (2:04.68), establishing herself as one of the top sprinters in the conference. 

Several other Owls posted personal bests: 

  • Natalie Abril swam a personal best of 1:34.54 in the 100-yard Breast, placing 15th overall. 

  • Trinity Hulet recorded a personal best of 1:06.38 in the 100-yard Free, placing 15th. 

  • Katelyn Wright set two personal bests — 36.96 in the 50-yard Free and 1:25.79 in the 100-yard Free. 

On the men's side, Liam Ross delivered two strong performances in the butterfly events. Ross placed 11th in the 100-yard Fly with a time of 1:02.31 and secured an impressive 4th-place finish in the 200-yard Fly with a time of 2:23.75. 

Ethan Gregory displayed his speed in the sprints, placing 10th in the 50-yard Free with a time of 24.48. 

Milton Gutierrez set a personal best of 1:13.55 in the 100-yard Breast, finishing 10th. He also earned a 7th-place finish in the 200-yard Breast with a time of 2:47.32.
