Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- It's still a little early, but the Citrus College Volleyball team seems to be coming together in a way they haven't in quite a while. The 19th ranked Owls are shaping up into a formidable team as of late, recording their fifth straight set sweep last night when they beat visiting Moorpark College, ranked 22nd in the State, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18.

The opening set would be the most closely contested of the three as it featured nine ties and five lead changes. The majority of the jostling for position would take place early on though, as the Raiders' last lead would be at 10-9. That's when Citrus went on a 3-0 run; using kills from sophomore Kim Collins and freshman Amanda Stone to go up 12-10. The Owls' lead would grow to as much as nine points as they led 24-15, but Moorpark scored four straight points to make it 24-19. That's when freshman Ana Bui put it away for good with a kill from the left side.
In the second set it was all Citrus. Moorpark would tie the game up just twice at 2-2 and 4-4, but after the second tie the Owls scored five unanswered going up 9-4 after a kill from sophomore Kassidy Greenberg and a bad set by the Raiders. Sophomore Alexis Lunney administered the coup de gras with a kill for the final point at 25-17.
Moorpark fought back in the third set keeping it close throughout as Citrus led just 15-13 midway through the first set after back to back attack errors on the Owls. Citrus kept plugging away though, and leading 21-16, got four kills in the final eight plays from freshman Kayla Eddings to take the final set 25-18.
Eddings finished the night with a match high 13 kills and two solo blocks. Amanda Stone had 38 assists, and freshman Makoto Toyama dug up a team high 13 balls. Greenberg added seven kills and match high four assist blocks, being responsible for 10 points for Citrus.
With the win, the Owls improve to 6-3 on the year. Citrus will kick off it's 2012 Western State Conference South Division schedule on Friday when they draw the undefeated #1 team in the State and the defending CCCAA State Champs LA Pierce College. The match is set for a 7:00 PM start in Woodland Hills.
