Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College Volleyball team played their home opener on Friday night, and did so against one of the top teams in Southern California. The Owls hung tough, but were eventually swept by Orange Coast 19, 21, and 22.

Citrus got off to a terrible start on Friday, getting outscored 10-3 in the first 13 points. The Owls would rally back drawing to within a point 11-10 after four straight attack errors by the Pirates.

Orange Coast would score the next point, but the Owls would keep the set close for the next several points. Orange Coast pulled away late though as Citrus went down by six.

In the second set it was Citrus who took an early lead going up 7-5 after a kill from freshman Kayla Eddings. A pair of attack errors from the Owls though handed the lead back to Orange Coast, a lead they never relinquished.

Citrus would keep the deficit around two for much of the set even making 19-20 after a kill from sophomore Kim Collins. That's about all they had though as the Pirates outscored Citrus 5-2 the rest of the way.

The third and final set saw Orange Coast take a commanding 10-3 lead early on. Citrus had a mini comeback in them though as kills by freshman Amanda Stone and Eddings helped the Owls draw to within three at 12-9.

The Pirates then went on a run going up 22-13, but Citrus answered with eight of the next nine points. Sophomore Alexis Lunney put an exclamation point on the run with two kills in three points that made it 21-23. That's about as close as it got though, as Orange Coast won 25-22.

In the loss, the Owls were led by Collins and Eddings who each had a team high 10 kills, while Lunney added nine. Sophomore libero Breanna Stone had a game high 14 digs, while her sister Amanda had 33 assists.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 1-3 on the year. The Owls will be back out on the court tomorrow afternoon at the Victor Valley Tournament.
