Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College Volleyball team notched their biggest early season win of 2012 on Wednesday evening, when they upset State #13 Fullerton College in straight sets. It's the first win for Citrus over Fullerton since 2006, as the Hornets had taken five straight matches all in sweeps.

The match was tight from the outset, with the largest lead in game number one by either team being three points when Fullerton went up 4-1 early in the first set.  Citrus came back though briefly taking the lead 9-6 after a pair of Hornet attack errors and an ace from sophomore Kassidy Greenberg.

Fullerton would reclaim the lead a few points later, and would hang on to it till late in the set. In that stretch Citrus would tie the game up seven times, and after the seventh finally took the lead back when the Hornets committed another attack error that made it 23-22 Citrus. Fullerton answered back after a timeout, but the Owls closed it out on the next two points with a kill from Greenberg and another Fullerton attack error making it 25-23.

In the second set, Fullerton would again lead early. The Hornets raced out to a 10-6 lead after back to back attack errors by the Owls. Citrus settled down though and went on a 6-2 run that was bookended by kill from freshman Kayla Eddings and a kill from sophomore Kim Collins that made it 12-12. The Owls would take the lead on the next point after another Fullerton error, and then go on to win 25-17 as Citrus closed it out with back to back solo blocks, the first from Eddings and the game winner from Collins.

In the third and final set it was all Citrus. The Owls grabbed the lead from the onset, and never really looked back. Citrus really poured it on after leading just 6-5, by embarking on a 9-3 run capped off by a kill from Greenberg that made it 15-9 Citrus. The Owls were firmly in control from that point forward as they posted a 25-15 win in the last game.

Collins led the way for the Owls with a team high nine kills, converting nine of her sixteen attack attempts with just one error en route to a match high .444 kill percentage. Greenberg and fellow sophomore Chelsea Martinez added eight kills, as did Eddings who also had a match high four blocks. Freshman setter Amanda Stone posted a match high 31 assists, while sophomore Breanna Stone posted a team high 13 digs.

With the win, Citrus moves to 4-3 on the year. The Owls will be back out on the floor this Friday when they travel to Ventura to take on the Pirates of Ventura College. The match is set for a 7:00 PM start time.
