Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College Volleyball team, ranked #17 in the State, took care of business on Friday night against West Los Angeles College. The Owls swept the Wildcats in convincing fashion winning 25-8, 25-6, and 25-8.

The Owls really wasted no time in getting after it. Citrus scored five of the first six points of the contest, and 10 of the first 13. The Owls' best stretch of the first set came when freshman Kim Nevarez recorded back to back aces, and then after a service error Citrus got three straight kills, one from sophomore Kassidy Greenberg and the other two from sophomore Kim Collins to take a big lead.

The second set featured much of the same, with Citrus running out to a 6-1 lead and 11-3 not to long after that. Midway through the set, the Owls rattled off six straight kills, two from Collins and four from sophomore Alexis Lunney that put Citrus up 17-4. The Owls went on to score eight of the next ten to take the second set with ease.

By the time the third set rolled around, West LA began to show some spunk. The Wildcats, who proved pesky defensively, let the Owls hurt themselves early on as Citrus led just 5-4 after the first nine points. That was soon remedied as the Owls scored 20 of the next 24 points en route to their third straight sweep.

In the win, Citrus recorded a season high 11 aces. Freshman Kim Nevarez had a match high four, with fellow frosh's Amanda Stone and Makoto Toyama each adding two more. Nevarez also had a pair of kills and a solo and assist block, as she accounted for 7.5 points on the night the second highest total for Citrus.

Lunney led the way at the net though for the Owls, with a match high 10 kills. Stone came up with a team high eight digs and also came up with a match high 33 assists. Collins, Greenberg, and sophomore Chelsey Martinez rounded out the superlatives with seven, six, and six kills respectively.

With the win, Citrus improves to 10-6 on the year and 4-2 in Western State Conference South Division play. Friday's match also marks the conclusion of the first round of WSC South play. The Owls currently sit in a three way tie for second place with Bakersfield College and College of the Canyons. Citrus will take on the first place team, undefeated and #1 ranked LA Pierce College, to kick-off the second half of conference play on Wednesday. The match is set for a 7:00 PM start.
