Cypress, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball team hit the road for the first time this year on Wednesday night and headed back home with a huge victory. The Owls, ranked #22 in the State, shocked host and #14 ranked Cypress College in five sets thanks to a well rounded team effort.

The match was tight throughout, with Citrus taking the first set 30-28. The second set was just as close, but the Owls were able to pull out without needing extra points 25-22. In the third and fourth sets, Citrus fell back early and lost all momentum dropping each set 16-25. In the fifth set, the Owls dug deep and pulled through grabbing a 15-12 victory.

In the win, Citrus was led by freshman Cassandra Freitag. Freitag left her mark all over the court, with three solo blocks, three aces, 11 kills, and 12 digs. Freshman Danielle Hundley finished with a team high 16 kills, while freshmen Kaylee Johnson dug up a team high 16 balls. Sophomore Kayla Eddings continued to show her all-around skill, blocking three balls on her own, racking up 10 kills, and 12 digs. Sophomore Amanda Stone rounded out the superlatives with 39 assists on the night.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-0 on the year. The Owls have a pair of tough tests ahead of them though, as they take part in the Grossmont Quad on Saturday. Citrus opens up the day with #3 Grossmont College at 12:00 PM before taking on #8 San Diego Mesa College later on at 4:00 PM.
