Santa Clarita, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball team dropped a big road contest on Friday night at College of the Canyons. The Owl struggled out of the gate and never really recovered, as they fell in four sets 19-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 26-28.

Canyons started off the very first game, by scoring six of the first eight points. The Cougars extended that lead to 14-8 and then 21-13 late. The Owls mustered a 4-1 run to cut their deficit to five at 22-17, but Canyons scored three of the next five to take the first set.

In the second set, the Owls came out extremely flat as they were held scoreless for the first half of the match and saw the Cougars run out to a 16-0 lead. The Owls would answer with a big 16-6 run, but it was too little too late as the two teams split, enough for Canyons to snag the win.

In the third game, the Owls finally flipped the script. Canyons led early 6-3, but Citrus used a 5-1 run to go up 8-7. The game would go back and forth, and would be tied as late in the set as 21 points each. Canyons would go up 23-21, but the Owls scored four unanswered to pull out set three.

It looked like Citrus would keep that momentum going into the fourth. The set was very close throughout. Citrus would tie the set up at both 24 and 25 points all, but a pair of service errors late doomed the Owls comeback attempt.

In the loss, Citrus was led by freshman Danielle Hundley and her team high 22 kills. Sophomore Kayla Eddings added 10 to go along with a team high 21 digs. Freshman Cassandra Freitag matched that dig effort for a personal season high, while freshman Alexandria Donnelly and sophomore Amanda Stone each had 19 assists.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will have to try and rally with yet another road contest when they go to Glendale College on Wednesday to take on the Vaqueros. The match is set for a 7:00 PM start.
