Glendora, CA -- The 2013 Citrus College Volleyball sophomore said a proper goodbye to the Owls' Nest on Wednesday evening. The Owls put together their best showing on the court in three weeks with a commanding sweep of visiting Santa Monica College 25-13, 25-12, and 25-14.

Citrus sprinted out of the gate on Wednesday, scoring seven of the match's first nine points. That opening runs was punctuated by a pair of kills from sophomore Kayla Eddings that were broken up thanks to an ace from sophomore Kiyhanna Dade. The Corsairs would pull to within one at 9-10, but the Owls scored 15 of the next 19 points, including a 7-0 stretch, winning the first set on a kill from sophomore Ana Bui.

The Owls started out the second set with an equal amount of vigor. Citrus scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second set to take a nearly insurmountable lead. Santa Monica would show some fight pulling to within eight at 10-18, but a kill from freshman Danielle Hundley would kick start another Owls run that saw them win set two by 13 points.

In the third set, Santa Monica was able to keep it closer in the beginning than they had in the first two sets. Citrus even trailed early on 5-4. That didn't last long though as a kill from freshman Alexandria Donnelly, along with three straight errors by the Corsairs, and another kill by Bui resulted in a five point turnaround and the Owls up 9-5. Citrus' lead was never really threatened from there on out as they easily cruised to the sweep.

Bui led the Owls with a match high 14 kills, while Hundley added 12 and Eddings 9. Sophomore setter Amanda Stone had 32 assists, while Dade had a team high 17 digs. Freshman Kaylee Johnson had a match high four aces to go along with 12 digs, while Eddings had a pair of solo blocks and a assist blocks to go with her kills. Sophomore Kimberly Nevarez added four kills.

With the win, Citrus improves to 13-8 overall and 7-3 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road for a critical match on Friday evening at Bakersfield College. If Citrus wants to stake a claim for a post-season berth, the Owls would need to upset the Renegades for a second time this season, a tall task. The match is set for a 6:00 PM start.
