San Diego, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball program had an up, then down weekend at the San Diego Mesa Tournament. The Owls started off well enough with a four set win over Riverside City College, but then fell in straight set sweeps to Palomar College and Antelope Valley College.

In the match against Riverside, Citrus battled all the way through, taking the first two sets 25-23 and 26-24. In the third, the Owls fell off dropping the set 18-25, but rebounded in the fourth to win 25-21. Sophomore Cassandra Freitag had a team high 14 kills, while fellow sophomore Alyssa Tarango added seven more and freshman Samantha Jape nine. Freshman Allison Castanon had a team high 15 digs, while freshman Kristen Fox handed out 28 assists.

On Saturday, things went downhill for Citrus. The Owls hung in the first and third sets losing 22-25 and 23-25, but floundered in the middle losing 11-25. Sophomore Kaylee Johnson posted a team high 10 kills, while freshman Erin Murphy came off the bench to contribute seven. Johnson also had a team high nine digs in the loss.

The Owls closed things out later in the afternoon with another disappointing setback this time to conference rival Antelope Valley College. Citrus fell without much of a fight 13, 21, and 17. Murphy had a team high six kills, while Johnson added four. Castanon chipped in with a team high 12 digs.

With the win and two losses, Citrus drops to 3-5. The Owls will try and right the ship on Wednesday when they host Fullerton College at 6:00 PM.
