Glendora, CA — The Citrus College Volleyball team went into Wednesday night's contest with State #7 Fullerton College without their top two players, and it showed. The Owls were swept in straight sets 25-15, 26-24, and 25-9.

The Hornets flexed their muscle from the start, scoring four of the first six points and never really looking back. Citrus would hold a brief lead at 6-5 after a kill by sophomore Alyssa Tarango, and the Owls even only trailed by one 13-12 midway through after a kill by sophomore Kaylee Johnson. The wheels came off shortly thereafter as Fullerton went on a 10-0 run to put the first set away.

In the second set, the Owls showed some fight. Citrus kept it close early on with seven ties through the first 26 points. The Hornets would use a small 5-1 run to put some space between themselves and the Owls at 18-14, but Citrus battled all the way back tying the set up at 24-24 after another Johnson kill. An attack error by the Owls and a kill by Fullerton would any hopes of a Citrus rally, as the Hornets escaped set two.

In the third, Fullerton simply outgunned Citrus. The Hornets opened the set on an 8-3 run, and before the Owls could even blink they trailed 20-7. It was all Fullerton down the stretch as even Citrus two final scores of the match would be via Hornet errors.

In the loss, Citrus was led by freshman Samantha Jape who had a match high seven kills on eleven attempts against just one error for a .545 kill percentage. Freshman Kristen Fox handed out a match high 17 assists and also dug up a match high 10 balls to highlight the Owl superlatives.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 3-6 on the year and will get another tough test on Friday when they host Orange Coast College (3-0), ranked #23 in the State at 3:00 PM.
