Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball team had a good chance on Wednesday evening to insert themselves back into the conversation in the Western State Conference South Division race when they hosted State #24 Santa Monica College. Instead the Owls were swept away, 25-19, 29-27, and 25-10.

The first set went back and forth on Wednesday night, with the Owls scoring the first three points, before the Corsairs answered with five straight. Citrus would take the lead back midway through and even lead as late as 15-13 after a kill by freshman Samantha Jape. Santa Monica went on a tear though, scoring 12 of the next 16 points, shutting the Owls down.

In the second, Santa Monica kept their momentum going, overtaking the lead shortly into the set, and cruising to a 24-17 advantage. That's when Citrus made their move. The Owls went on a 7-0 run and tied things up at 24-24 after a kill by sophomore Kyla White. Citrus would tie the game up three more times, until, the Corsairs got a kill and an attack error to close out the set 29-27.

In the third, it was more or less all Santa Monica. Citrus would trail by two late at 20-18, but Santa Monica closed on a 5-2 run, to seal the victory.

In the loss, Citrus was led by White's match high 19 kills. White also tied with freshman Allison Castanon for the team lead in digs with 13, while freshmen Kristen Fox and Jackie Hall each had 14 assists.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will head out on the road this Friday when they take on Bakersfield College in Bakersfield at 6:00 PM.
