Glendora, CA -- Citrus College sophomore volleyball player Cassandra Freitag has accepted a scholarship offer from NCAA Division II Dallas Baptist University. Freitag was a two-time All-Western State Conference South Division selection in her career at Citrus.

"Dallas Baptist gave me a great chance to continue playing, while pursuing my bachelor's degree," Freitag said. "The campus was beautiful and I fell in love with it. The team was welcoming, and the coach made me feel like part of the team already."

The 6'1 middle blocker appeared in 19 matches during the 2014 season. Freitag recorded 165 kills, 64 digs, 39 blocks, and 18 aces and was named a 1st team All-WSC South honoree. As a freshman Freitag notched 150 kills, 113 digs, 67 blocks, and 27 aces and was named a 2nd team All-WSC South honoree.

"Citrus was everything for me these last two years. It gave me an opportunity to improve as a player. I never would have been able to play or even imagine playing at the next level prior to coming here," said Freitag. "Citrus has provided a great experience for me. The athletic department as a whole has been very supportive, and I don't know where I would be without them."

In addition to her success on the court, Freitag was also a two-time Scholar Baller for the Owls. Scholar Ballers are those student-athletes who maintain a GPA of at least a 3.0. Freitag was also recently honored by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic All-State representative.

"Cassandra was a cornerstone of our program the last two years," said Citrus College Head Volleyball Coach Shin Jung. "She was the ideal student-athlete to coach. She worked hard on the floor and in the classroom, and always gave it her all. I know that her work ethic will carry her far at Dallas Baptist."
