Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball program's opening week continued on Friday afternoon when they headed up Grande Avenue to participate in the Mt. San Antonio College Triangular. The Owls took the good with the bad, opening up by being swept by the days host (Mt. SAC), before rallying and winning in four sets against College of the Desert for their first win this year.

In the opening match versus the Mounties, Citrus struggled off the bat, scoring just 16 points in the first set and 15 in the second. Citrus mounted a better effort in the third set, but still fell 20-25. Freshman Lauren Valenciana was one of the few bright spots with five kills and a solo block. Sophomore Jacqueline Medina added 18 digs.

In the second match, Citrus held off a pesky roadrunner squad for a 25-20 win in the first set. In the second, Desert struck back with a vengeance, taking a 25-14 victory over the Owls. Citrus settled down over the course of the next two sets though and went on to cruise to 25-11 and 25-17 wins for their first victory this season. Valenciana had eight more kills to go along with another block, while Medina had 11 digs. Sophomore LeAna D'Aquila rounded out the superlatives with six kills on 12 attempts.

With the loss and the win, Citrus moves to 1-2 on the year. Their opening road odyssey continues on Wednesday when Citrus heads west on the 210 Freeway to take on Pasadena City College at 6:00 PM.
