Owls Close Out Non-Conference Schedule With Another Loss

Costa Mesa, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball program closed out their 2015 non-conference schedule on Wednesday evening with a trip into Orange County to take on Orange Coast College. The Owls suffered yet another loss in straight sets, 25-23, 25-11, and 25-17.

The Owls hung tough in the first set, and even led 9-2 early on, but an 8-3 run by the Pirates midway through made it 15-15. The two schools went back and forth, but a late run put Orange Coast up 23-21 late, before eventually winning by two. In the second set, Citrus deflated midway through. The set was tied 10-10, before the Owls watched as the Pirates closed the set on a 15-1 run to fall down two sets. In the third, Citrus never was really in it, trailing by seven midway through, before Orange Coast won comfortably.

In the loss, Citrus was led by freshman Briana Olvera who had a team high eight kills on 21 attempts with just three errors. Sophomore Kristen Fox handed out a team high 18 assists, while sophomore middle blocker Samantha Jape chipped in with five kills a solo block and three assist blocks. Sophomore Jessica Martinez rounded out the night with a team and career high 12 digs.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 2-7 on the season. The Owls will be finally be home on Friday night for a WSC Divisional Crossover with Los Angeles Mission College at 6:00 PM.
