Glendora, CA -- After playing their first nine games of the season on the road to limited success, the Citrus College Volleyball program finally opened up their 2015 home schedule on Friday evening when they hosted a tough Los Angeles Mission College team. It was good to be back home for the Owls as they played arguably their most complete match of the season with a four set win.

The two squads would be neck and neck early on with LA Mission holding a small and early 7-6 lead. After a service error by the Eagles tied the set up at seven each, the Owls got back to back kills from sophomore Samantha Jape that helped kick start a 11-6 run that saw Citrus go up 18-13 after a kill by sophomore LeAna D'Aquila. Mission would slowly work their way back into match getting their deficit down to three at 23-20, but the Owls got back to back kills from freshman Briana Olvera and sophomore Erin Murphy to close the set out.

The second set played out largely like the first. The two teams were neck and neck early on, and the Owls began to pull away after three straight kills by sophomore Amy Wilcox made it 16-11. The Owls would score the next three points, before a service error cut the streak and made it 19-12 in favor of Citrus. Mission wouldn't get any closer as the Owls went on to win 25-15, with the set being closed out with a kill by freshman Lauren Valenciana.

The Owls would open up the third set with three kills from Olvera and another by Valenciana to start out 4-0. Citrus' lead didn't last long and the two teams would trade the lead back and forth until Mission broke a 14-14 tie with a 4-0 run. The Owls would try to work their way back into the match, pulling to within two at 23-21, but a kill by the Eagles and an attack error by the Owls ended any hopes of a comeback.

Despite falling in the third set, Citrus came out of the gate strong in the fourth. After Mission started out the set with a service error, sophomore Jackie Hall fired off three straight aces to make it 4-0. Although they fell into an early hole, the Eagles weren't going to let Citrus get off easy. Mission would come back to tie the match up twice at 8-8 and 11-11. After the second tie, sophomore setter Kristen Fox came back into the match, and tide turned permanently in the Owls favor. Citrus would get kills from Valenciana on two of the next three points, and the Owls never looked back on their way to a 25-20 win.

In the win, Citrus was led by Olvera's match high 16 kills. Valenciana added 11 kills to go along with a match high five blocks and a match high .333 kill percentage. Fox would hand out a match high 25 assists, and sophomore libero Jacqueline Medina chipped in with a match high 25 digs.

With the win, Citrus improves to 3-7 on the season. The Owls will try and keep momentum headed in their favor this coming Wednesday when they travel to Moorpark College. It'll be the second meeting between Citrus and the Raiders this season. The Owls will hope that Wednesday's contest goes better than the first when they square off at 6:00 PM inside Raider Pavilion.
