Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball team played host to West Los Angeles College on Friday evening in both school's WSC South opener. The Owls swept the visiting Wildcats 25-16, 25-16, and 25-15.

Friday night's final line score wasn't indicative of the battle that the Wildcats gave Citrus. In the first set, West LA tied the first set up four times through the first 20 points, and even briefly held the lead 13-10. The Owls answered with a 7-1 outpouring, before closing out the first set on another run, this time 8-2.

The second set saw West LA jump out to an 11-6 lead over Citrus midway through. The lead didn't last long though as Citrus closed out the set on a 21-5 run. In the third, Citrus opened the set up on a 6-0 run, never trailed and cruised to the 15 point set victory.

Sophomore Samantha Jape led all Owls with a match high 10 kills to go along with five digs. Sophomore Erin Murphy added six kills, while freshmen Lauren Valenciana and Briana Olvera each had five. Sophomore libero Jacqueline Medina came up with a match high 15 digs, while sophomore setter Jackie Hall had a team high 12 assists, to go along with four digs, a pair of kills, and an ace.

With the win, Citrus improved to 4-8 overall and 1-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will get a big test next Friday when they host State #5 College of the Canyons at 6:00 PM.
