Glendora, CA -- Despite a positive effort by the Owls, the Citrus College Volleyball team was simply outmanned on Friday evening when it played host to State #5 College of the Canyons in a WSC South meeting. The visiting Cougars posted team kill percentages of .480, .320, and .304 across a straight set sweep of Citrus.

Citrus would give it a go, keeping things close early in the first set, and trailing by just two points 9-7 after a kill from freshman Lauren Valenciana. The closeness didn't last long though as Canyons closed the set out on a 16-6 run for a 25-13 win.  In the second set, Canyons jumped all over the Owls early leading 10-3 out of the gate. Citrus would get it to five at 10-5 after a kill by sophomore Samantha Jape and an attack error by the Cougars, but that's as close as they would get after another 25-13 loss.

In the third, Citrus gave it their best shot. The two teams would be tied as late as 19 all after a kill from sophomore Erin Murphy, and the Owls only trailed by one as late as 23-22 thanks to another shot by Murphy. It wasn't meant to be though, as the Cougars closed the Owls out with a kill and an error by Citrus that made the final set 25-23.

In the loss, Jape led all Owls with seven kills. Freshman Brianna Olvera added six, while Valenciana and Murphy each had four. Sophomore setter Amy Wilcox had a team best 16 assists, while freshman Zhari Johnson rounded things out with a team high six digs.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road for two over the coming week beginning on Wednesday when they take on Glendale College at 6:00 PM.
