Glendale, CA — After winning the opening two sets of their WSC South road contest at Glendale College, the Citrus College Volleyball team just couldn't find a way to close the deal. The Owls went down in three straight over the course of sets three, four, and five in a five set loss to the Vaqueros.

Citrus got off to a great start in the opening set, winning 25-15 and posting a respectable .222 kill percentage on the strength of three kills by freshman Brianna Olvera. The Owls kept it rolling in the second set with a 25-16 win, a .225 kill percentage, and three kills and a solo block from sophomore Samantha Jape.

After that, things turned ugly for Citrus. The Owls fell in the third set 21-25, and posted a negative kill percentage in the process. Citrus tried to regain momentum, but lost 24-26 in set number four with a .115 kill percentage. Needing to find something in that fifth and final set, the Owls came up empty for the third straight time, despite another four kills and just one attack error in that frame by Olvera.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Olvera's team high 14 kills. Freshman Lauren Valenciana added 10, while Jape finished with nine and a team high three blocks. Sophomore setter Jackie Hall handed out a career best 35 assists, and sophomore Jacqueline Medina had a team high 20 digs in a losing effort.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 4-10 overall and just 1-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will be on the road again this Friday when they take on Santa Monica College at 6:00 PM.
