Santa Monica Downs Owls in Four

Santa Monica, CA -- The Citrus College Volleyball team hit the road on Friday afternoon to take on Santa Monica College in Western State Conference South Division action. The Owls gave it a go against the Corsairs keeping it close throughout, but were ultimately downed in four sets.

The Owls did not get off to a great start earning just two total kills in the first set and posting a -.182 team kill percentage in a 25-12 loss. They quickly turned things around in the second set though and grabbed a win, 25-23. The next two sets, Citrus would battle, but Santa Monica proved to be too much as they outlasted Citrus 25-23 and 25-21.

Sophomore Samantha Jape led the way for Citrus in the loss, totaling a team high 12 kills and three blocks. Freshmen Brianna Olvera and Lauren Valenciana added 10 and 8 kills respectively. Sophomores Jacqueline Medina and Amy Wilcox each had 15 digs, while sophomore Jackie Hall had a career high 40 assists.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back at home on Wednesday when they host Bakersfield College at 6:00 PM.
