Glendora, CA -- When the Citrus College Volleyball program played host to Santa Monica College on Tuesday evening, the Owls knew they'd have to bring their best game to step to team that had won three straight against Citrus. While the Owls gave it their best effort, they only got one set off the Corsairs who went on to win 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-18.

In the first set, Citrus hung tough early, trailing by only a point as late as 21-20 after an ace by sophomore Amy Wilcox. The Corsairs turned it up though, getting a bloc, an attack error by Citrus and back to back kills to close out the set. In the second set, Citrus jumped out to an early 16-4 after a kill by sophomore Erin Murphy, and then held on for dear life. Santa Monica would pull to within one, twice at 19-20 and 20-21, but the Owls were able to stave off the Corsairs thanks to a last minute kill by freshman Briana Olvera that iced it at 25-23.

In the third set it was all Santa Monica. The Corsairs pulled ahead by four at the 10 point mark, and never let Citrus get closer than that the remained of the set. The fourth set played out much like the third, with the Owls getting their deficit down to six late, but never closer.

In the loss, Citrus was paced by Olvera who had a team high 10 kills, but also an uncharacteristic nine hitting errors. Sophomore setter Kristen Fox had 29 assists, and a team high 16 digs to round out the highlights.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 6-15 overall and 3-7 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road on Friday for a test at Bakersfield College at 6:00 PM.
