Riverside, CA - While the 2016 Citrus College Volleyball season had gotten off to an inauspicious and slow start, the Owls had some hope heading into Wednesday night's matches against Mt. San Antonio and Riverside City Colleges. Citrus had steadily improved over its first six matches, getting progressively closer and closer to that elusive first win. That building momentum wasn't there for the Owls on Wednesday however, as they were swept in straight sets by the Mounties and Tigers.

The Owls opened up the evening against the Mounties, and had it rough from the get go. The Owls posted a negative team hitting percentage in the first set (-.033), but actually was the closest they would get in set points losing 21-25. The Owls managed to turn their hitting percentage around in the second set, but it wasn't enough as they fell 25-19. Citrus' dipped again, but managed to stay in the positive in the third and final set, in what ended up a 25-18 loss.

In the loss, sophomore Paige Madkin had nine kills and six digs. Freshman libero Marissa Underwood had a team high 10 digs, while freshman setter Moriah Gordon had 22 assists.

In the second match, things didn't get much better. The Owls' team kill percentage stayed below .100 over the first two sets despite being much closer losing 25-22 in each. The Owls put together their best offensive set in the third and final one of the evening, with just six attack errors against 16 kills, but Citrus fell short once again 22-25.

Madkin once again led the way with a team high 11 kills, adding in eight digs for good measure. Freshman Leah Price bounced back from a tough first match to notch 11 kills to go along with nine digs. Gordon recorded 26 assists, while Underwood had seven more digs.

With the losses, Citrus falls to 0-8 on the year. The Owls will keep on searching for their first victory next Wednesday when they participate in the Pasadena City College quad, taking on host PCC at 4:00 PM, before locking horns with Mt. San Jacinto College in the night cap.
