Owls Win First of Year in Five Sets at San Bernardino

San Bernardino, CA - The Citrus College Volleyball team picked up their first victory of 2016 on Wednesday when they defeated San Bernardino Valley College on the road in five sets. Citrus nearly did their best to give it away, but in the end prevailed. 

 Citrus came out strong on the evening, beating the Wolverines 25-19 in the first set and posting a .400 kill percentage. The Owls slowed down some in the second, but still won 25-21 to take a seemingly commanding two set lead. San Bernardino rallied however beating Citrus 25-20 and 25-14 in the third and fourth sets to force a fifth and deciding set. The Owls would stumble out of the gate in the fifth, but rallied late for a 15-9 victory. 

Sophomore Paige Madkin led the way for Citrus with a match high 14 kills. Sophomore Zhari Johnson had a led the team with 19 digs, with Madkin adding 14. Freshman Leah Price rounded out the superlatives with 12 kills and 10 digs. 

With the win, Citrus improves to 1-12 on the year. The Owls will be on the road again on Friday when they start WSC cross-divisional play at Los Angeles Mission College.
