In Error

Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Volleyball team kicked off their 2016 Western State Conference East Division schedule at home on Friday evening against Victor Valley College. The Owls fell in straight sets, due in large part to the amount of errors they committed, 33 in total, in the 19, 20, and 20 loss. 

 After scoring the first two points of the first set, Citrus quickly fell in a hole, as the Rams rallied with a 9-1 run. The Owls would pull to within two after five straight points, getting an ace from freshman Briana Voght and kills by Voght, sophomore Lauren Valenciana, and two by freshman Leah Price to make it 16-18. That's as close as they would get though as Victor Valley closed out the set, outscoring Citrus 7-3.

The second set would prove to be much closer throughout until the Rams pulled away late. The Owls would lead midway through, 14-13, after a kill by freshman Amanda Belzl pulled the match even and an error by the Rams gave Citrus a one point lead. The Owls would keep it tight, trailing by one 18-19 after a kill from freshman Julia Verduzco, but Citrus failed to put away the ball down the stretch, losing by five.

In the final set, Citrus did it's best to try to rally, taking a 17-16 lead towards the end of the set after back-to-back kills by Voght. Victor Valley, as they had all match, had an answer though scoring five straight en route to another five points victory in the set.

In the loss, Voght led the Owls with 12 kills, while sophomore Paige Madkin added 11 kills. Madkin and freshman Marissa Underwood each had 13 digs, and freshman setter Patrisha Sangalang had 32 assists.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 2-16 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Owls will be on the road on Wednesday when they travel to Glendale College for a 6:00 PM showdown with the Vaqueros.
